The role of technology is moving at pace across all industries and in these new Microsoft-hosted sessions we explore how the meat sector is embracing tech. We look at who’s leading it, what makes these leaders tick, how our sector is embracing change and what jargon busters we need to know.

To ensure our entire global community get the opportunity to take part in these events we will be running it twice within 10 hours to ensure we can serve all time zones. We’ll hear from:

  • Laura Ryan, Meat Business Women Chair

  • Jamila Gordon, CEO and Founder of Lumachain, a technology platform that uses Artificial Intelligence to connect the broken links in global meat/food supply chains while also helping keep workers safe. Jamila’s personal journey is remarkable. She started life in a tiny village in the hinterland of Somalia, where drought and hunger were ever-present threats. Civil war brought her to Australia, where she learned English and fell in love with technology. Jamila went on to ultimately become a global executive with IBM and Group Chief Information Officer of Qantas Airways and CIMIC, before deciding to launch Lumachain.

  • Dr Jane Weatherley, CEO, Integrity Systems Company, Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA). Jane was appointed to the role in 2016 which includes responsibility for all traceability, biosecurity and the initiation of the industry data platform across MLA. Previously, Jane was General Manager of Livestock Productivity managing Meat Standards Australia, livestock genetics and sheep productivity.

  • Mike Wilson M.Sc B.Sc, Chief Automation Officer at the Manufacturing Technology Centre, leading the drive to increase the adoption of automation in UK manufacturing. Mike has over 35 years of experience in the application of automation to manufacturing across a broad range of industry sectors and is widely recognised as one of the leading authorities on the application of industrial robot systems in the UK. He is also Chairman of the British Automation and Robot Association and has previously been Chairman of the International Federation of Robotics.

  • Sam Tinsley, Meat Business Women committee member. Sam came into the Meat Industry just over 3 years ago – and has rapidly established herself as a much-needed change agent – bringing her experience and skillset of Digital Transformation and Organisational Leadership to the Industry. Taking the helm of a traditional distributor business and working with Strategic partners in the fields of Automation, Robotics and Vision technology, she quickly embraced the very obvious challenge to support the move in technology in the sector. Sam become a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Butchers in 2019 and completed her Masters level in Organisational Leadership at the University of Oxford in the same year. In 2020 Sam has formed her own Organisation, AJMInspired Ltd. and continues to work with leading Engineering and Digital Technology businesses in helping to transform the Global Meat Industry. Sam will be hosting a panel discussion.
